How Long Does the Divorce Process Take?
Interviewer: Actually, here’s the last question. How long can a divorce take? Can you estimate if there are no children and no major disagreements, versus having children and a major disagreement that requires a trial. What’s a ballpark range?
Adam: In Ohio, what you’re describing as far as nor disagreements is the dissolution. It’s a minimum 30 days after the filing and no greater than 90 days. Between 30 and 90 days is when you get into court and have everything over and done with.
Interviewer: Even if there’s a trial or dispute?
Adam: Not if there’s a trial. Again, we’re talking about an agreement on all or most issues.
Interviewer: I see.
Adam: Then, on the long end, if there’s going to be a dispute, it could take easily a year. Depending on which county, it could go even longer than a year.
