Former NFL Player Troy Smith Charged With DUI And Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia
Perry Township police charged 33-year-old Troy Smith for DUI Friday night. He is the former Ohio State quarterback and he also won the Heisman for which he is famous.
He was stopped by the cops at around 9:30 p.m. while he was crossing a random DUI checkpoint on Riverside Drive. The cops observed a strong smell of marijuana coming from Smith’s vehicle so they issued him a field sobriety test which he didn’t pass. They searched the vehicle and found marijuana as well as drug paraphernalia.
Perry Township police and the sheriff’s office collaborated to setup the checkpoint.
Smith was charged with multiple offenses including:
- Driving with a suspended license
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
His driver’s license was suspended back in the month of April after he was charged in a hit-skip incident in Blendon Township. He pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge of hit and run for which he was ordered to pay the amount of $300 in fine.
His girlfriend drove him to court as he was summoned.
It is not the first time he was charged for DUI as he was also charged for the same offense back in 2016 in Westerville.
Smith started played as a quarterback for Ohio State from 2003 to 2006. He played for Baltimore Ravens for 3 years and one year in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers.
