34-Year-Old Man From Ohio Jumps Into Freezing Water To Avoid Police
BARBOURSVILLE – On Sunday night, 34-year-old Joshua Everett Roman jumped into Mud River to escape from the cops as they were chasing him for stealing a truck. He was given treatment for hypothermia after taking him out of Mud River.
Police were reported about the stolen Chevy Silverado at around 4:15 p.m. and they saw it going erratically near the Mall Road intersection in Barboursville. They started chasing it with the siren and red lights on, but the driver didn’t stop before the vehicle spun in the north parking lot near JC Penney.
The person behind the wheel ran away on foot to a nearby guardrail and jumped into the mud river. The temperature decreased 15 degrees immediately and the cops saw him floating on his back. It could be seen that he was not conscious. The troopers succeeded in taking him out of the water. According to an interview, he consumed methamphetamine.
He was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment and was kept in police custody. He is still in jail.
The police charged him for:
- Felony fleeing while driving under the influence
- Fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference
- Escaping on foot
- Grand larceny
- Driving on a license revoked for DUI
